Air Cleaning FAQ
Q: Why not use a HEPA (High Efficiency Particulate Arrestor) air filter in my central air conditioner
or furnace?
A: HEPA air filters are not designed to handle the air flow volume that typical air conditioning units cycle. Using an air filter that is not designed for an air conditioner or air handler can damage the equipment and is dangerous.
Q: Can't I just use an air purifier rather than an air filter
in my central air unit?
A: The air filter in a central air system is designed to
protect your air mover from contaminants. Without a properly installed
air filter, the coils and other parts of your air conditioner will
become filled with dust and other particles. This can eventually
lead to a breakdown and will also cost you more to run your AC unit.
Q: What does an air purifier do that an air filter in a
central AC system doesn't do?
A: Air Purifiers that you have probably seen advertised are
meant to be a supplemental air cleaning product. They do not replace
the air filter for your AC and/or furnace system.
