One of the highest allergenic materials found in the average household is dust. This allergen is often made a lot worse from microscopic creatures called dust mites. These creatures are solely responsible for the suffering of thousands of people around the world.Dust mites are unwelcome guests in every home. These microscopic insects infest our bedding, carpeting, and furniture. Although dust mites can survive in most climates, they thrive and multiply best in warm and humid environments. Since they feed off of dead skin flakes and dander, they make their homes easily anywhere people and animals live. The dust mites themselves are a concern as they are the source of the allergen, but it is actually the proteins (DERp1) in their waste and body fragments that cause the most discomfort as these are highly allergenic.Allergy symptoms caused by dust mites include a wide variety of sinus-related problems. Itchy, watery eyes, runny nose, itching and clogging of the ear canals, asthma, and other respiratory issues are common symptoms. Many of these symptoms appear at night, while a person sleeps. This is because millions of dust mites can live in bedding, pillows, and mattresses. People who suffer from asthma often have difficulty with dust mites because they bring on severe asthmatic reactions. They can cause symptoms such as respiratory congestion, wheezing, and even severe shortness of breath.
