Molds are a type of fungi. They grow in the natural environment. Tiny particles of molds are found everywhere in the indoor and outdoor air. In nature, molds assist in breaking down dead materials and are found growing in soil, foods, and plants. Molds are also found in the indoor environment. Mold needs moisture to grow. Mold is more likely to grow where humidity levels are high, such as basements and bathrooms. Molds product microscopic cells called spores that are dispersed easily in the air by wind, water, insects, and physical contact.
