A number of organic chemicals exist in the home and office setting.  Organic chemicals are very common ingredients in household products.  These chemicals can be hazardous or toxic in nature.  Organic chemicals or compounds are often referred to as VOCs.  The long list of products that often contain VOCs include:
  • paints, laquers, varnishes, solvents, wax, & paint strippers
  • cleaning, disinfecting, & degreasing products
  • pesticides, moth repellents, aerosol sprays, & air fresheners
  • building materials, office equipment, & copiers/printers
  • craft materials, glues/adhesives, permanent markers
  • wood preservatives, fuels, & automotive products
Testing Process:  Your test kit will be mailed to you along with everything needed for the testing process.  This test will identify and measure concentration levels of VOCs at a desired test location using a device called the Bio-Badge.  The device absorbs VOC particulates by collecting air from an indoor area of up to 2800 sq. ft. over a 24-48 hour period (preferred sampling time is 24 hours).  Once you complete the test, you will return it to the lab using the postage-paid envelope provided.  Your results will be provided by email in a PDF format in 7-10 business days after the lab receives your test.

Your Results:  EDLab (Environmental Diagonostics Laboratory), accredited by the AIHA (American Industrial Hygiene Association), will provide a final report included in the cost of the test.  The report can identify and measure over 80 different compounds.  Concentration levels of VOCs are reported in parts per million (ppm) and will have guidelines for what is considered to be a normal, manageable level.  All compounds can be detected at levels as low as 0.03 ppm for a 24 hr. test.  A toll-free phone number for the lab is provided if you should have any questions concerning your results.
